Drager Air Boss Evolution

We stock and sell Drager brand breathing apparatus.  Drager has a proven track record of excellent service with little or no down time.  Pictured below is the model we stock.  It is called the Air Boss Evolution.

(By the way, when you call for a price, since most departments mount them on trucks with brackets, we don't automatically include a case in the price.)

If you wish to download the Drager brochure, click here.  It is a PDF style download and may take a while.  There are other files at that location that can give you specifications, performance, and more.  The link will open a new window so you can spend as much time as you want there and then simply close the window to get back to this page.

This unit is built to meet NFPA pamphlet 1981, 2007 edition standards and still be affordably priced.  The most unique feature would be the LEDs that are located in the facepiece to indicate how much air a fire fighter has left in the cylinder.  The information is sent to the facepiece by a radio so there are no wires running to it that could get in the way.  Activation of the system is automatic when the cylinder valve is opened and it shuts off automatically as well so you simply don't have to worry about it.

Instead of the normal sales spiel, we'll just cut to the chase and explain what makes this air pack so special.  It fits like a glove.  Some air packs still feel like you have a spine board that has been strapped to your back but not this one.  The one-piece composite backplate actually makes this a comfortable pack.  It is probably because the backplate and harness are designed to take weight off of the shoulders and position it on the wearer's hips.

The unit is available in either low pressure (2216 PSI) models or high pressure (4500 PSI) models.  The high pressure models are available in 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute configurations.

Composite or Aluminum Cylinder?

The most frequently asked question is, "Which cylinder do you recommend?"  (The unit pictured on this page is equipped with the composite cylinder.) We don't like to get into making decisions for our customer but we do supply the information they need to make such decisions.  In this case we would advise you of the following.

The aluminum cylinder is less money up front but will make the entire air pack a little heavier.  Further, it must be hydrotested every 5 years but there is no limit on the life span of the cylinder as long as it is in serviceable condition.

The composite cylinder will cost more up front but it will result in an extremely light air pack.  However, the composite cylinder must be hydrotested every 3 years (there are exceptions) and has a life span of 15 years after which it must be discarded.

That being said, our customers seem to have split on which to purchase based on frequency of use.  Those departments that use their SCBAs a lot are buying the composite and those customers who seldom use them are opting for the standard aluminum cylinder.
